Weekend Updates for DSA Computers

Technology Services will be performing scheduled updates on DSA computers over the weekend to ensure systems remain secure and up to date. These updates are automated and require no action from users, minimizing disruption to work activities.

Regular PC updates are essential for maintaining security, improving performance, accessing new features, ensuring compatibility, and receiving ongoing support. DSA Computers (Windows workstations, laptops & tablets) are updated and automatically restarted during standing maintenance windows, which may be done on any weekend. Updates generally occur on Saturdays and Sundays between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Technology Services – Student Affairs must install all critical patches within 30 days (previously 90 days), which may increase updates on the other weekends. If a vendor releases an emergency update, it is possible for updates to occur during the week, but they will be announced if possible.

Keeping your computer updated is crucial for several reasons. Regular updates help protect your system from the latest security threats by patching vulnerabilities that cybercriminals could exploit. They also improve your computer’s performance, making it run faster and more efficiently. Updates often bring new features and functionalities that enhance productivity and user experience. Additionally, staying updated ensures compatibility with the latest software and hardware, preventing issues with new applications or devices. Finally, using an updated operating system ensures you continue receiving support from the manufacturer, which is essential for resolving any issues.

  • Users should save their work and log off their DSA computers (leaving them powered on) every Friday evening.
  • Approved updates will install and automatically restart computers during maintenance windows. This is the only time automatic restarts will happen.
  • If a computer is powered off or unavailable during the maintenance window, the next time the computer comes online, the approved updates will begin installation. This may trigger a message on the computer that a restart is requested.
  • We encourage users to restart at their convenience. Otherwise, the automatic restart will be triggered during the next maintenance window.
